Microsoft has released a new wallpaper app that allows Windows users to set up a new desktop background using the Bing homepage of the day photo.

Bing Wallpaper, which you can download from Microsoft using this page, places an icon in the system tray, letting you access more information about the photo being used as a desktop background.

Additionally, the icon makes it possible to change the wallpaper right from the tray.

The Bing homepage of the day image is also being used for Windows Spotlight, a dedicated Windows 10 feature that automatically sets a new background for the OS lock screen.

Offered as a legacy Win32 program

On Windows 10, however, Bing Wallpaper also comes with a series of extras bundled with the installer, including setting Bing as the homepage in the browser and the default search provider. All these changes would be made to browsers installed on your device, like Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome.

“Bing Wallpaper includes a collection of beautiful images from around the world that have been featured on the Bing homepage. Not only will you see a new image on your desktop each day, but you can also browse images and learn where they're from,” Microsoft explains.

Of course, there are lots of wallpaper changes out there on Windows, and many of them come with features that should also be added to Microsoft’s new app. For example, hotkey support would definitely come in handy in Bing Wallpaper, and so would be additional options such as saving a specific desktop background that you like.

The app obviously comes with a free license, and surprisingly, it’s not offered through the Microsoft Store, which means you can download and install it like any other legacy Win32 application for Windows.
