We reported a few days ago that Microsoft updated Skype for iOS with extra sharing options, and now it looks like the company is back with yet another Skype-related announcement.

Skype for Business was in testing for quite a while on Android platform, but Microsoft did not disclose the release date of the application.

Today, developers announced that thanks to the valuable feedback received over the past few months from people participating in the preview program, they have been able to release Skype for Business on Google Play Store.

The new application has been specially tailored to offer the best possible experience for Android users. Skype for Business replaces Lync and features a brand-new dashboard design that brings the contact search bar, all upcoming meetings and most recent conversations to one place.

Users will simply need to tap the Quick Join icon to the right of their appointment name to join their meetings with one touch, or tap the name of the meeting to see its details.

Furthermore, developers have added full-screen video along with larger call-control buttons to mute and add participants to a meeting, which should make it easier for users to work while on the move.

The Skype Team also promises better contact management since the contact search bar now allows users to search their Global Address List by name, email or even a phone number.

Basically, users will be able to search easily for a contact within their organized Skype for Business groups and add or remove any of the contacts they wish.

Additional authentication and security features

Some security and authentication options have been implemented as well, which should enable IT admins to configure multi-factor authentication for users of the Skype for Business Android application.

Keep in mind that if you're an Android user with Lync 2013, the application will be automatically updated to the Skype for Business based on the device's settings.

Otherwise, you can now download Skype for Business for Android for free via Google Play store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 4.0 and up.
