Microsoft has recently launched an upgraded Surface Book 2 model that features Intel’s latest 8th Gen quad-core i5 processor.

However, the new CPU is only available on a single configuration of the Surface Book 2, but Microsoft is also cutting the price of the version that it replaces in the United States.

First and foremost, the new Intel Core i5 8th Gen Surface Book 2 can only be ordered with a 13.5-inch display and 8 GB RAM. There’s only one storage option at this point, namely 256 GB. This configuration can be purchased in the United States for $1,499.

At the same time, the company has reduced the price of the Intel Core i5 7th Gen version that this new model replaces.

Discounted Intel Core i5 model

The 13.5-inch Surface Book 2 with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage can be yours for $1,299, down from the original price of $1,499 when purchased with the old processor. An 128 GB version is also available for $1,149.

The top-of-the-range Surface Book 2 with a 13.5-inch display still has a price tag of $2,999 when equipped with 16 GB RAM, 1 TB storage and an Intel Core i7 8th Gen processor.

On the other hand, there are no hardware upgrades available for the 15-inch Surface Book 2, and right now the Microsoft Store is selling just a single configuration for this particular model: Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, and three storage options between 256 GB and 1 TB. The top-of-the-range version costs $3,299, while the most affordable version is sold for $2,499.

For now, the new CPU version appears to be exclusive to the United States and other select markets, but there’s a good chance it becomes available in other countries as well, especially as the new model is likely to bring a significant boost in performance over the previous configuration.
