Microsoft has quietly released a new CPU option for its Surface Laptop series that makes the device even more affordable, though it goes without saying that you won’t get the same performance as in the case of the other more expensive configurations.

The Intel Core m3 option is now available for the Surface Laptop as well, and you can order the device for just $799 in the United States from the Microsoft Store.

Originally, the device was sold with an Intel Core i7 or Intel Core i7 processor paired with a maximum of 16GB RAM and 1TB storage space.

Only available with 4GB RAM

On the other hand, the m3 processor configuration can only be equipped with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. Additionally, it can only be ordered in Platinum, as the other three colors, namely Burgundy, Cobalt Blue, and Graphite Gold are only offered for the other versions.

“Intel Core M processors are ideal for notetaking, web surfing, email, and basic everyday tasks. Comes with Intel HD Graphics 615 graphics chip,” Microsoft says in the description of this new CPU option.

While the m3 processor is indeed a more affordable choice if you want to cut the price of the Surface Laptop, it’s worth knowing that it’s not exactly the way to go if you want to use the device for things like playing games. It does have what it takes to run the basic tasks like browsing the web and watching movies, but other than that, it certainly shows it limits, especially when paired with 4GB RAM.

You can order the new Surface Laptop with an Intel Core m3 option from the Microsoft Store right now. The device is only available in the United States for the time being, but there’s a good chance it’ll also go on sale in other markets in the coming months.
