After launching the high-end Lumia 950 and 950 XL, Microsoft is now releasing a new Windows 10 Mobile device, this time trying to tackle the budget market that's still dominated by Android.

Lumia 550 is the most affordable Windows 10 Mobile device, Microsoft says, but that's not at all really difficult to attain, given the fact that right now you can only choose from a handful of phones. But looking at the specs sheet, it's pretty clear that Microsoft tried to offer good value for the money, so although it wanted to make it as affordable as possible, some premium features such as Glance screen are still available.

Tech specs

First and foremost, the Lumia 550 comes with a 4.7-inch HD screen with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels that also supports Glance screen, a feature that's still missing from the flagship Lumia 930 that was launched with Windows Phone.

The device ships with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 quad-core processor running at 1.1 GHz and features 1 GB of RAM, which, according to Microsoft, should be enough to run Windows 10 Mobile pretty smoothly.

8 GB of internal storage is also offered, and so is microSD card support to expand storage beyond the internal capacity.

In terms of camera, the Lumia 550 features a 5-megapixel unit with a single LED and capable of shooting in 720p @ 30 fps, as well as a 2-megapixel one from video calls and selfies.

The phone also has a 2,100 mAh battery, which should easily get you through the day.

Obviously, it comes with Windows 10 Mobile, but as we've already told you in our Lumia 950 XL first impressions, the operating system still feels unfinished, so it'll be interesting to see it running on this new device, especially with so many bugs happening every once in a while.

The new Lumia 550 will launch with a price of $130 (€125) in select markets, but Microsoft hasn't yet disclosed which exactly are these markets.
