Flower-recognition app now available in the store

Microsoft Garage has announced the availability of another iPhone-exclusive app that can automatically recognize a flower from a single picture, either stored on the phone or captured with the camera.

Called simply Flower Recognition, the application is only available for iPhones for the time being and there are no plans to bring it on Windows phones. Judging from the past projects released by Microsoft Garage, it’s hard to believe that the app would ever make it to Windows 10 Mobile, but depending on feedback from users in the community, this can change at any moment.

The app works without an Internet connection

No Internet connection is needed to use the app and users only have to take a pic of a flower or provide one from the camera roll.

After that, Flower Recognition automatically displays its name, along with a few details. For the moment, the app is only available in Chinese (and in the Chinese iOS store), but flower names and details are in English, so you should be fine using it even if you do not speak Chinese.

What’s important to know is that Flower Recognition comes with some limitations on iOS 10, but Microsoft says that it’s already working on a fix, along with an English version that should be released soon.

“If you have installed Flower Recognition prior to upgrading to iOS 10 then you should be fine. If you have installed iOS 10 then installed Flower Recognition for the first time you will not be able to run the application as Camera and Camera Roll access is blocked. We already have a fix for this so an update to the Apple Store should be out very soon,” Microsoft explains.

The new app created by Microsoft Garage requires iOS 8.2 or later and can be installed on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. An Android version is very likely as work on the project advances.
