14 DAY TRIAL // As expected, Microsoft has taken the wraps off its most affordable smartphone powered by Windows 10 Mobile, the Lumia 550.
The sequel to one of the most popular Windows Phone handsets, Lumia 530, the new smartphone won't be available for purchase until later this year.
In fact, according to Microsoft, Lumia 550 will be launched on the market just in time for the holiday season. Customers will be able to pick this one up for just $140 outright, but pricing options may vary by country and carriers.
As mentioned earlier, Lumia 550 will ship with Windows 10 Mobile operating system right out of the box. The smartphone will come in two variants: single-SIM and dual-SIM.
The dual-SIM version of Lumia 550 is likely to be released in emerging markets like India and China, while the single-SIM model should be available in the rest of the world.
Choose between black and white colors
Moving on to specs, the affordable Lumia 550 has been confirmed to pack a 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 200GB via microSD card slot.
It's also worth mentioning that Lumia 550 offers LTE support, among other connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, microUSB 2.0, and GPS with AGPS support.
Previous rumors suggested that Lumia 550 would sport a 4.7-inch capacititve touchscreen display that would support HD (720p) resolution and feature Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating, and Microsoft's announcement has confirmed the information.
On the back, the smartphone packs a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and HD (720) video recording, while on the front, there's a secondary 2-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.
Last but not least, Microsoft Lumia 550 is powered by a 2,100mAh battery that features rapid charger and should provide up to 14 hours of talk time or up to 28 days of standby time.
