The cheapest Windows 10 smartphone is already available for purchase in Europe, but Microsoft has yet to introduce the Lumia 550 in other regions.

Today, Microsoft India has officially announced that the Lumia 550 will be available in the country beginning next week.

Windows Phone fans will be able to grab the affordable Microsoft Lumia 550 for only Rs 9,399 outright, which is about $140 or €130.

That's the same price you have to pay for the European version of the smartphone, so it looks like the Redmond-based company has not treated Indian customers unfairly this time over the pricing.

The Lumia 550 will eventually be available worldwide, but Microsoft is still rolling out the handset in various countries.

The third Windows 10 smartphone released in India

Apart from the fact that it comes with Windows 10 Mobile operating system right out of the box, there's nothing really impressive about Lumia 550's specs since this is an entry-level device.

In this regard, the handset comes equipped with a 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, an Adreno 304 graphics processing unit, and 1GB of RAM.

Also, the smartphone sports a 4.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution. There's also a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash, and video recording.

Lumia 550 comes with a secondary 2-megapixel selfie camera on the front, along with many connectivity options such as 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, FM Radio, microUSB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.1, and GPS with AGPS and GLONASS.

The 2,100 mAh battery inside the Lumia 550 should be enough to provide users with up to 28 days of standby time or up to 16 hours of talk time.

The Lumia 550 adds to Microsoft's lineup of Windows 10 smartphones that are already available in India, alongside Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. Until next year, these will be the only smartphones to come with Windows 10 Mobile onboard.
