The update was briefly pushed to some units in early June

Good news for Lumia 830 owners, as Microsoft has started the global rollout of Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2. Although the update was spotted earlier this month, only Lumia 830 units in a few countries received the update (Italy and France included).

However, it looks like beginning today, Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 is being deployed to unlocked Lumia 830 devices worldwide, Dr.Windows blog reports.

Keep in mind though that due to the fact that the update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, it might take a while until it reaches all Lumia 830 devices.

Microsoft confirmed back in April that Lumia 735 and Lumia 830 would be the only smartphones to receive Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2. Two other smartphones, the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL, come with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 right out of the box.

Aside from that, Microsoft also released the update for a range of smartphones launched by Windows Phone OEMs, including Prestigio 850 Duo, Lava Iris Win1, Yezz Billy 4.7, HTC One M8 for Windows and BLU Win HD LTE.

Other Lumia smartphones might get it soon as well

Lately, some other Lumia smartphones have been updated to Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, such as the Lumia 1320 and the AT&T Lumia 635.

Still, it looks like the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 rollout is a bit chaotic, as there's no telling which device will be the next on the list of upgradeable devices.

The new Windows Phone handset launched at Verizon last week, Lumia 735 also ships with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2.

Most of the devices, if not all, that receive Windows 8.1 Update 2 are likely to be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile soon after Microsoft releases it later this year.
