The demise of Windows 10 Mobile and Lumia phones kind of forced Microsoft to rethink its mobile strategy, with the company eventually becoming fully committed to an Android push that took many by surprise.

In addition to bringing more and more apps to Android, Microsoft also launched its very own line of devices running Google’s operating systems. And at the same time, it’s investing big in apps that run on iPhone as well.

Microsoft’s mobile commitment isn’t stopping here, as a new report from The Information indicates that the company is planning to launch what’s being described as a super app specifically aimed at mobile users.

The strategy is as simple as it could be: Microsoft wants to bring essential mobile content under one roof, therefore building a solution that it hopes would compete with Google.

The report indicates that right now, Microsoft wants to combine things like shopping, messaging, web search, news feeds and other services into this almighty app, with the focus to obviously be on Bing. At this point, Bing is considered the only alternative to Google Search, though the adoption of Microsoft’s search engine is severely lagging behind the competition.

Needless to say, Microsoft has remained completely tight-lipped on this new product, and the report adds that while the application is indeed being worked on, an internal decision on whether to release it or not is yet to be made.

Of course, this means Microsoft could kill off the idea completely if something doesn’t go as planned, so it’s hard to tell when and if this super app is supposed to go live.

For the time being, however, it’s very clear that Microsoft wants to expand its mobile push, and the new app would represent one of its most aggressive attempts to gain share in the fight against Google and Apple.
