The feature will be replaced by OneDrive, company says

Microsoft is working on making Office Mobile work as straightforwardly as possible, so the company is now getting ready to drop the feature known as Transfer Files.

To be honest, I always considered using Transfer Files rather inconvenient, pretty much because I had to pair my smartphone running Office Mobile and my computer. This doesn’t make much sense given I am logged in with the same Microsoft account on both devices.

And Microsoft has finally come down to the same conclusion, with the company explaining in a recent announcement that Transfer Files is being retired.

Transfer Files to go dark on December 31

The whole thing will happen on December 31, which means Transfer Files will continue to be available only for one month and a half.

The replacement is the one that makes so much sense. OneDrive, which is already integrated into Office mobile, will be used to share files between devices, and if you’re using Windows, the whole experience is even more convenient.

“The Transfer Files feature is being retired, but transferring files is becoming easier in Office Mobile. As we evolve to offer the best of Microsoft 365 on mobile, we are constantly looking at new ways to bring value to our users while assuring you remain productive across your devices,” Microsoft said.

“To keep the Office app in tune with the needs of our users, the Transfer Files feature is being replaced by OneDrive, which is seamlessly integrated with the Office app. You will be able use the Transfer Files as a legacy feature on Android and iOS in parallel with OneDrive until December 31, 2022. Rest assured that files that have been sent and received using the Transfer Files feature will remain in the Office app and will be unaffected by this change.”
