The feature should go live in September, Microsoft says

While I’m not the biggest fan of text predictions on a PC, I can understand why users find this feature such a great tool. As Microsoft itself explains, predicting text as you type indeed accelerates the writing speed, so it comes in very handy, especially in an app like Microsoft Word.

The Redmond-based software giant has already launched text predictions in Microsoft Word on Windows, and now the company has confirmed that the same capabilities would go live on Macs in September.

As noted by Neowin, the confirmation comes via the Microsoft 365 roadmap, where Microsoft promises to release the word predictions in Microsoft Word on Apple computers in the coming months.

Text predictions in Microsoft Word

The feature was first announced for insiders back in September 2020 when Microsoft debuted text predictions for Word and Outlook.

“Text predictions help users write more efficiently by predicting text quickly and accurately. The feature reduces spelling and grammar errors and learns over time to give the best recommendations based on your writing style,” the company explained at that point.

“Simply start typing in a document in Word or in an email message in Outlook, and note that predictions start appearing. Press the TAB key to accept a prediction and the ESC key to reject it.”

It goes without saying the text predictions will initially make their way to the Mac via the Insider program, so if you want to try them out early, you know what you have to do. Most likely, only English will be supported at first, just like it happened on Windows.

The software firm hasn’t yet released an official announcement on the debut of text predictions on macOS, so expect more information on its development and availability to be shared later this year when the launch is ready.
