The dual-screen Surface device shown to employees

While the whole world is waiting for Microsoft to take the wraps off a dual-screen Surface model, the company clearly takes its time, with the project believed to be advancing rather slowly than fast.

But according to a recent report from The Verge, the dual-screen Surface tablet is still something that Microsoft is keen on launching.

The company internally showcased this innovative Surface model to a bunch of employees, and the initial feedback was more than enthusiastic.

What’s important to know, however, is that this dual-screen Surface tablet doesn’t actually exist as a device that you can use, so what the software giant presented was just a video demoing an early version of the device.

Most likely, Microsoft only wanted to get feedback on the idea that the dual-screen Surface is based on in order to further refine the project with additional improvements before it reaches a more advanced development stage.

Slow progress

On the other hand, Microsoft just seems to make too little progress on the dual-screen Surface device, as the idea of a tablet or laptop with two displays has already been brought to fruition by other manufacturers. This means the software giant could eventually be late to the market with its dual-screen Surface, albeit there’s a chance something more innovative could be in the works as well.

For the time being, however, the good news is that the dual-screen Surface is still alive. Sure, there are no specifics as to when it could get the go-ahead and hit the shelves, but for now, Microsoft still seems to be very committed to tackling this form factor.

When and if this could happen is something that remains to be seen, but for the time being, Microsoft doesn’t seem to be in a rush to deliver its dual-screen Surface. And judging from how many OEMs invest in similar devices, this could very well be a double-edged sword.
