A previous issue caused an increase in the startup time

The most recent cumulative update shipped to Windows 11 devices, available right now as an optional pack of improvements, comes with a critical fix for the slow startup time experienced by some devices running this operating system version.

Cumulative update KB5011563, which is currently labeled as preview because it allows users to test the improvements that will be part of the next Patch Tuesday release, resolves a glitch causing the startup time for Windows to be significantly higher.

“Addresses an issue that increases the startup time for Windows. This issue occurs because a UI thread in a networking API stops responding when a 5G wireless wide area network (WWAN) device is slow to wake up,” Microsoft explains.

More performance refinements

In addition to resolving several crashes happening on Windows 11, such as the one affecting the Settings app, this new cumulative update also includes additional polishing specifically aimed at IT admins relying on the Group Policy Management Console and the Remote Desktop Service for their daily tasks.

“Addresses an issue that causes the Remote Desktop Service (RDS)server to become unstable when the number of signed in users exceeds 100. This prevents you from accessing published applications using RDS on Windows Server 2019,” Microsoft explains.

“Addresses an issue that causes the Group Policy Management Console to stop working after you close it. The system logs Application Error Event ID 1000 and the error, 0xc0000005 (STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION); the failing module is GPOAdmin.dll.”

The next Patch Tuesday is scheduled to take place on April 12, so all the improvements that are live today in this optional update will be shipped automatically to all devices running Windows 11 alongside several other security fixes.

To download this update, head over to Windows Update in Settings and manually check for updates (you’ll also have to start the download and the installation manually).
