Bill Gates is currently the world’s richest man, with a net worth that’s even bigger than you could ever imagine - $79.4 billion (no, seriously, have you ever tried to think of what so much money actually looks like?).

But even if he has more money that he can spend, Bill Gates is pretty much the go-to person when trying to find out the best way to live with just $2 a day. Because Gates, as one of the world’s leading philanthropists, has spent a lot of time working and aiding people in very poor African countries, so he knows the best ways to survive with just a couple of dollars.

In a post on his own website, Gates provides some tricks on how to live with just $2 a day, and to be honest, his idea actually makes sense - no wonder he’s one of the richest persons ever.

“That’s what I would do - I would raise chickens,” he says, going on to explain some of the reasons behind his decision.

Why chickens?

First of all, they are easy and inexpensive to take care of, Bill Gates explains, and they can help keep children healthy because they are an invaluable source of food. Eggs can help fight malnutrition, he says, but there’s also the choice of letting eggs hatch, sell the chicks, and with the money buy food.

And last but not least, chicken are a good investment, and his is where Bill Gates proves that he’s one of the world’s best entrepreneurs. Here’s what he says:

“Suppose a new farmer starts with five hens. One of her neighbors owns a rooster to fertilize the hens’ eggs. After three months, she can have a flock of 40 chicks. Eventually, with a sale price of $5 per chicken - which is typical in West Africa - she can earn more than $1,000 a year, versus the extreme-poverty line of about $700 a year.”

Bill Gates closes his post by asking readers to donate money and help fight diseases and poverty in African countries, so if you want to join the effort, make sure you head over to the aforementioned source link to find all the details.
