14 DAY TRIAL // One of the biggest changes in Windows 11 is the debut of a new Start menu, which is obviously inspired by the one in Windows 10X and therefore gives up on live tiles for a more static approach.
The new Start menu, however, has been received with mixed feelings by users out there, and while most people love it, others hope the Redmond-based software giant would reconsider this approach and go for a more dramatic overhaul that’s based on the one in Windows 10.
Surprisingly, people really love the design that Microsoft previously used in Windows 10, and users discussing the new Start menu in the Feedback Hub claim the Windows 11 version is a step backwards.
“Windows 10 had what was by far the best Start Menu implementation ever made. Windows 11 significantly rolls back the customization and ease of use features. Groups and the ability to place pinned items wherever the user desires are a must have,” someone says in a comment.
Third-party Start menus
And while Microsoft is unlikely to change the design of the Start menu, some believe that third-party alternatives that would allow users to return to the original approach and bring the menu back to the left lower corner are likely to be a hit when Windows 11 goes live.
“There was an option with Win 11, to take the Start Menu to the next level but that has so far been missed...and I believe that the likes of Stardock, with their Start11 product will make a killing as many will opt to purchase that to get back the Win 10 Start menu flexibility...unless a change is made to Win 11 before general release,” one user explains.
Windows 11 is projected to launch in approximately two months, and without a doubt, the current Start menu design is here to stay even in the stable version.
