File Explorer has evolved substantially in Windows 11, so right now, it finally has the feature everybody wants (tab support), while also coming with a dark mode and everything else a modern file manager would need today.

However, File Explorer is still a work-in-progress, and every new update comes with additional improvements that further enhance the experience with the app.

Most recently, for example, Microsoft has managed to fix another crash occurring in Windows 11, though this time the patch is available for insiders enrolled in the Dev channel.

In the release notes of Windows 11 build 25262, Microsoft explains that it addressed “an issue causing explorer.exe to crash when opening certain items from the recent section in File Explorer.”

I personally encountered this issue and can tell it was extremely annoying, especially because I use the Recent menu to quickly access the files I work with on a regular basis.

Tabs in File Explorer

The tab support in File Explorer is undoubtedly the biggest update the file manager received in a long time. It’s part of the Moments 1 update that went live for Windows 11 users earlier this year. However, on Windows 11 2022 Update are getting this highly anticipated update.

“One of our most loved and highly utilized features, File Explorer, is getting better. Windows is always looking for ways to simplify your everyday tasks and make collaborating as effortless as possible. So, we’re releasing Tabs to File Explorer that let you organize your files and switch between your folders with ease. The new Favorites section is the perfect place to pin your most used files. And thanks to the power of OneDrive we’re making it easier for you to see important information like which of your colleagues most recently edited or commented on your file,” Microsoft said earlier this year.
