The company says a full fix is currently on its way

Microsoft has developed a fix for a Microsoft Access bug that was introduced by the July 12 updates and which causes an error when trying to open files created in a different version of the app.

The company originally acknowledged the problem earlier this month, explaining that users could get an error reading “Requested type library or wizard is not a VBA project” when trying to open an ACCDE/MDE file.

Microsoft says it has already developed a fix for Office 2016, Office 2019, and Office 2021, with full fixes for Microsoft 365 already on the way. The company claims Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 7 should get the patch on August 9 (this is when the company will ship a new round of updates as part of the next month’s Patch Tuesday rollout).

Full fix already on the way

On the other hand, Microsoft 365 Apps in the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel should be getting the same fix on July 25, so the rollout should start in just a few days.

“For Click-to-run versions (all channels except Office 2013 and Office 2016 MSI), you can get the new update when it is available by choosing File/Account/Office Updates/Update Now.  If you have Access to the original database that was used to create the ACCDE/MDE, and users are on a single version of Office, you can re-create the ACCDE/MDE file using the same version of Office that users are on,” the software giant explains.

“We are working on a fix for this issue and this page will be updated with the appropriate build or KB article number as it becomes available.”

Needless to say, while this is a critical issue, the date when the fix could land for all devices could be pushed back if something doesn’t work properly before the rollout starts.
