Users can’t fully recharge their Surface Pro 3 batteries

Microsoft fixed one critical battery issue with the Surface Pro 3 last month, but it turns out that the company has more work to do, as new reports seem to point to similar battery problems experienced by those whose devices are equipped with LG power packs.

Specifically, Microsoft addressed last month the battery charging problem with Simplo batteries, but now it seems that a number of users with Surface Pro 3 featuring LG batteries can’t fully recharge their tablets either.

Not a hardware problem

Posts on Microsoft support forums first showed up on September 16 and, at first glance, they seem to be pointing to a software issue that can be fixed by the firm with a firmware update

“I had spoken with a Technical Agent online, had my Pro 3 remote accessed, did all the proposed solutions, and even had a call from Bellevue, WA (I live in Hong Kong) before I found out that it was a software issue as stated by Microsoft,” one user whose Surface Pro 3 cannot be fully recharged explains.

“With Auto Update turned on, I was notified that I should restart my Pro 3 this morning while I was on the docking station. I was happy that this issue was going to be resolved, but now I am disappointed that this firmware update did nothing for my Pro 3.”

The same Surface Pro 3 owner says his Surface Pro 3 not only can’t be recharged to 100 percent but it also turns off as soon as the charger is removed. Although this might suggest a hardware issue, it can be addressed by Microsoft with a firmware update, so if you’re experiencing similar problems, waiting seems to be the only option for now.

Microsoft is reportedly looking into these reports already, and a firmware update should be released soon, but just like usual, there’s absolutely no target date to let customers know when exactly this new version could land.
