Microsoft announced earlier this week that it plans to release Windows 10 Mobile preview builds for the Lumia Icon too and now the company has finally pushed the well-known red button for the very first version.

Lumia Icons that are configured to receive Windows Insider preview builds are now getting Windows 10 Mobile 14332 as part of the fast ring, Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, said.

“How about now? We just published the detection logic, so Icons should now be able to get the 14332 Mobile build,” he said when asked about the release date of Windows 10 Mobile preview builds for the Lumia icon.

Keeping the Lumia Icon on the list of unsupported devices didn’t make much sense given the fact that it’s nearly identical with the Lumia 930, a phone that has already received not only preview builds of Windows 10 Mobile, but also the stable version of the operating system as well. This is actually one of the reasons why Microsoft reconsidered the original decision to keep the Icon out of the Insider program, so fortunately, everything is now back to normal.

New preview build for mobile coming next week

The next Windows 10 Mobile preview build is scheduled to go live, after the Windows development team decided to hold back the release this week due to a major bug found at the very last minute.

The new build will be shipped to both PC and mobile, but it’s not yet clear whether this would be a version focused on new features or more on bug fixing and performance improvements.

Also, it’s not known whether Microsoft intends to ship the next build to Lumia Icons enrolled in the Windows Insider program, but since the device is already at the latest version, it would make sense for this model to be aligned with all the other phones that are eligible for Windows 10 Mobile preview builds.
