Microsoft is finally working on bringing @mentions to Microsoft Excel, a feature that long been a top request for users of the productivity suite.

Tagging other company employees in a spreadsheet is something that comes in super-handy, especially now when so many people are working remotely.

And as recently spotted by TechRadar, Microsoft is now working on bringing mentions to Microsoft Excel in a future update. The feature is already in the works, but according to the company itself, it should reach the broad availability phase at some point in October.

In the meantime, however, the company has refused to provide any other details, so the only thing we know is that the new feature will allows users to “create, assign, and track tasks within your workbook.”

The most recent Excel update, which was released in late July, brought several important features to users, including support for controlling the automatic data conversions for insiders running the beta builds. Users sticking with the stable version of Excel received natural language query improvements, also available on Windows and Mac.

“Take advantage of the latest natural language processing innovations. You can now ask questions about specific patterns or insights that might be in your data like "Show me insights for the Northwest region". You get more options when there are multiple answers to your question,” Microsoft explained.

On Macs, Excel also received resizable condition formatting dialog support.

“Previously, the size of the Manage Rules dialog limited you to viewing just five conditional formatting rules at a time. You may also not be able to see the entire formula or the range used in your rules. Now, you can make the dialog wider and/or taller, allowing you to see more of the rules all at once and giving you more space to view longer formulas if needed,” the company revealed in a blog post a few weeks ago.
