Windows 11 is getting more of the famous Windows Aero

Microsoft is working on all kinds of improvements for Windows 11, and one of them is support for acrylic in the title bar of Win32 desktop apps.

We’ve known for a while that such a feature was coming, pretty much because Microsoft itself provided us with a close look at the whole thing, but now it’s about to happen, according to WindowsCentral.

Microsoft is planning to introduce this change as part of the next Windows 11 preview build to be shipped to insiders as soon as the next week.

While it feels like Microsoft is bringing back more of Windows Aero, the visual refresh will obviously be based on the Fluent design system that’s currently (still) rolling out to modern Windows.

The blurred translucent title bar will therefore help evolve the Windows 11 UI, making the experience overall feel more modern, and in many ways, a lot more polished.

Coming later this year

At this point, however, it’s not exactly clear when Microsoft plans this little visual update to go live for all users running Windows 11.

The cited source claims some of the changes that Microsoft is currently working on are projected to go live for production devices as part of the Sun Valley 2 update due in the fall of this year. However, the company is also planning to ship some minor Windows 11 refinements to users before this, possibly as part of smaller quality updates that will ship via Windows Update.

For now, however, the good news is that Microsoft is clearly working on further polishing the Windows 11 UI. The first major step in this regard will be made this month when Microsoft will roll out the first major Windows 11 update with taskbar improvements and a public preview of the Android app support on the desktop.
