Microsoft has decided to extend the $75 discount on the Band 2 in the United States until the end of July, most likely in an effort to clear our inventories and make room for the next generation expected to land in October.

The Microsoft Band 2 can be purchased right now in the United States for $175, and the discount was previously available until July 9. But as Neowin reported, the company decided to maintain the price cut until the end of the month without offering any other details.

The device can be purchased at this special price from Microsoft stores, but also from Best Buy and Amazon, both of which are offering the Band 2 for $175. Note that this price is only available in the United States, and not in other markets.

The third-generation Microsoft Band

It’s believed that Microsoft is currently trying to sell as many Band 2 units as possible in order to prepare the arrival of the third generation, which, according to sources, should take place in October.

There were reports of the Band 2 suffering from breaking rubber bands, and despite the fact that the company replaced the faulty units with new lots made from a more durable material, the issue is still happening, and customers are bringing them back in stores.

As a result, Microsoft is working at full speed to clear out the existing inventories, and people with knowledge of the matter say that the company doesn’t want to make more units available for stores that are running out of the Band 2.

The third-generation Band could sport interchangeable bands, but also an improved design that would make it easier to wear at all times. Furthermore, it’s believed that the device would come with waterproofing and would support swimming, becoming one of the few fitness trackers offering such a rich lineup of features.
