“We are clearing out older feedback,” Microsoft says

Now that the very first post-RTM Windows 10 preview build is available for download, Microsoft has more time to discuss some of the changes it made to the operating system, but also to the Insider program which provides us with early software bits.

As we previously reported, some of the feedback suggestions submitted to Microsoft as part of the Windows Feedback app was removed, so users can only see data that was sent in the last two weeks, which basically means that the company removed all pre-RTM submissions.

Many said that Microsoft is actually ignoring these requests, but in a blog post released today, Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, explained what actually happened with the feedback that users submitted since October last year.

The feedback's still there

Aul explained that all suggestions it received since the debut of the Windows Insider program are stored on the servers and engineers can filter them to see the ones with the biggest number of votes, thus deciding the features that can be added in future updates.

“We have also cleared out the older feedback that we received early on in our product development cycle from the default search results that get returned in the app. You might wonder what’s going to happen to all the feedback you left,” Aul pointed out.

“The feedback you’ve previously provided is still stored in our internal engineering tools. Engineers are using it to find and filter on key feedback for their areas. This blog post that we previously published describes what we do with your feedback.”

The only problem here is that users cannot see these suggestions, so they can't vote for older feedback. In this context, creating duplicates and sending the same request again is very likely, but Microsoft has already announced some improvements for the feedback program, so maybe it will be easier to get in touch with the company whenever you have something to say about Windows 10.
