It’s no surprise that Microsoft is trying to make the most of Apple’s latest iOS features to promote its services, and the CallKit framework integrated into iOS 10 makes no exception.

In a blog post today, the software giant explains how it uses CallKit to make Skype for Business easily accessible to its customers on iPhones, as this new tech allows applications to handle calls from the lock screen or from the call screen just like the default phone app.

For example, Skype for Business customers can now answer calls straight from the lock screen, but also toggle between Skype and cellular calls from the calling interface.

“iPhone users can accept an incoming Skype for Business call right from the lock screen. There is no need to unlock the phone or launch the Skype for Business app to receive the call,” Microsoft explains.

“Skype for Business calls will appear and behave just as regular cellular calls do - including being able to see the caller’s name on the lock screen. When you need to, you can also get to the app from the calling interface with just one touch.”

Enabled by default

CallKit integration makes it possible for users to switch from Skype for Business to cellular lines and to other VoIP applications that support the framework, and you can see all information from Skype right in your phone’s call history.

It goes without saying that, in order to benefit from all these features, you must be running the latest iOS version, as well as the fully updated Skype for Business client for iOS.

These features come enabled by default in iOS, but if you don’t want to use them, you can head to the Settings screen and disable mobile integration for Skype. IT admins can also block this integration with a special policy, the company says.
