Here’s what to expect from the new Lumia cameras

Microsoft has equipped both the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL with high-resolution 20-megapixel cameras, which the company says can provide the best quality on the market right now when talking about photos and videos.

And to prove its point, the company’s Brandon LeBlanc has posted a collection of photos shot with the Lumia 950 and 950 XL in different light conditions and with various filters applied.

As you can see for yourselves in the photos at the end of the article (make sure you click them for higher resolution), photo quality is decent and maybe above average, but it isn’t by any means impressive. Earlier today, we’ve shown that Lumia 950 XL shoots really awesome 4K videos in low-light conditions, but as far as photo performance is concerned, while these pictures look good, it’s hard to call them stunning.

Camera information

The new devices sport a 20-megapixel camera with PureView tech, F1.9 Zeiss optics, a triple-LED natural flash, fifth-generation optical imagine stabilization, and a rich capture mode that employs two exposure times for static and moving parts of the image.

At the same time, both models come with a new three-LED RGB (red, green, and blue) Flash that helps preserve natural colors in low-light conditions. The complemental dynamic flash is also there to shoot better pictures, as the system automatically takes two different photos, one with flash and another one without, to determine which one features more vivid colors and correct brightness.

As you can see, post-processing is essential, and these photos posted by Brand LeBlanc prove that Microsoft worked really hard to make this as advanced as possible.

But without the phones available for customers, it’s hard to tell how the new Lumias actually perform in different light conditions, so more on the cameras should be available starting later this month, when they hit the shelves in markets across the world.
