Microsoft has just released an update for its Edge browser on iOS, this time bringing a more exciting update for those who have already purchased Apple’s latest iPhone.

Microsoft Edge browser version 41.6 (6.0) comes with support for the iPhone X, which means that the application no longer displays black bars at the top and bottom of the screen due to the notch and the new aspect ratio.

The iPhone X introduces a very controversial feature called notch at the top of the screen that serves as the home of facial recognition cameras, FaceTime cameras, and other modules, thus eating up valuable screen space. Because of a new aspect ratio, apps need to be updated to be rendered correctly on the iPhone X, so developers need to move fast if they don’t want to lose users just because of this.

More improvements for other iPhones too

As a big supporter of iOS and Android, Microsoft is one of the first companies to ship updates for its apps and deliver iPhone X support, so with this new version, Microsoft Edge should be rendered flawlessly on Apple’s new iPhone.

In addition, the software giant says this version introduces a number of other bug fixes and performance improvements, so it’s worth installing not only by those with an iPhone X, but by everyone else with an iPhone who wants to use Microsoft’s browser.

The update is available via the TestFlight app as a beta version, so users in the production ring can’t download it just yet unless they are part of the testing program.

Microsoft has already released the stable version of Edge for Android and updates are shipped at a fast pace. This strategy is already paying off, as Edge has already reached the 1 million downloads threshold in the Google Play Store since its release.

It remains to be seen if the same success is experienced on iOS as well, but Microsoft appears to be very keen on making Edge a top browser on both mobile platforms.
