Microsoft has released a new Microsoft Edge Dev build, a week after version 89 officially made its way to the stable channel.

As a Dev release, this new update is specifically supposed to let users try out a bunch of new features in advance, and this time, Microsoft has included several notable additions that are worth taking for a spin.

For example, Microsoft Edge Dev build 90.0.818.0 comes with options to sort overall Collections, but also to disable the developer mode extensions popup. Microsoft says that the new downloads popup menu is now available for everybody, and so is the Startup Boost feature that makes it possible for the browser to load by as much as 41 percent faster than before.

Microsoft Edge 90 to go live for production devices in April

‘Startup boost works by keeping a few Microsoft Edge processes running when the browser is not visible. This allows Microsoft Edge to start more quickly when, for example, you click the Microsoft Edge icon, a hyperlink from another application, or search from the search box in the Task Bar. We developed heuristics based on experimentation to determine when startup boost is on by default which helps ensure the best experience. We know resource usage is important to our customers. Startup boost does not add any additional resources when Microsoft Edge browser windows are open,” Microsoft explains.

Microsoft’s very own testing indicates users should expect a startup time boost between 29 percent and 41 percent. This feature was originally part of stable build 88, but Microsoft used a gradual rollout to make sure everything is working as expected.

According to Microsoft’s own calendar, Microsoft Edge 90 is projected to enter the stable channel in the week of April before eventually reaching the beta channel later this month.
