Microsoft has shipped a new Microsoft Edge Dev build for testers, and while the changelog doesn’t include anything else besides fixes, this release comes with a series of other important highlights.

First and foremost, with this update the Microsoft Edge Dev channel is updated to build 79.0.309.5 and gets fixes for a series of crashes, like the one that you experience when logging into the browser.

You can check out the full changelog in the box after the jump.

As compared to the previous announcement, the new release is just a build newer, and Microsoft says it’s all because this new update actually represents a beta candidate. In other words, the company wants to further polish this build and then push it to the Beta channel.

“You may notice that this is only one build away from last week’s Dev, and that’s because this is our candidate for our next Beta release, so we want to make sure it’s extra polished before we release it there.  However, that also means it’s a pretty light week this week in terms of notable changes,” Microsoft Edge engineer Josh Bodner explains.

One known bug

According to the Microsoft Edge release calendar, the Dev channel receives updates every week, while a new Beta build is released every six weeks. The Canary build is updated weekly.

What you need to know is that this build comes with a known issue that causes your browser to launch to a blank window.

“There are two possible causes.  If you launch another window and it’s fine, you shouldn’t ever see the issue again.  However, if subsequent windows are also blank, you’ll have to disable Application Guard in order to get Edge back into a working state,” Bodner explains.

There’s still no ETA for Microsoft Edge stable, but more and more signs seem to be pointing to an early-2020 release for the browser.
