Microsoft Edge has just received a new major update in the stable channel, with version 108 bringing both security fixes and new features.

Needless to say, one of the most important fixes in this release is aimed at CVE-2022-4262, a vulnerability that was discovered in the Chromium engine and which is believed to already be exploited in the wild.

“Type confusion in V8 in Google Chrome prior to 108.0.5359.94 allowed a remote attacker to potentially exploit heap corruption via a crafted HTML page,” Google said when rolling out a patch for the vulnerability.

Microsoft Edge 108.0.1462.42, which is now available for download on the supported platforms, also comes with two feature updates.

The first of them is the Graph APIs for Cloud Site List Management that are bundled with the update.

“New Graph APIs that allow IT admins in organizations to create, manage, and publish their site lists for IE mode in the cloud. For more information, see Use the Edge API in Microsoft Graph,” the software giant explained.

And then, Microsoft Edge is getting new security feature, as the browser is being updated with the new Microsoft Defender SmartScreen library that has been specifically put together for the browser. With version 108, this new feature is also coming to Linux after previously landing on Windows and macOS.

“Browse the web with more reliable protection thanks to the rewritten Microsoft Defender SmartScreen library for Microsoft Edge on Windows, Mac, and Linux. The new SmartScreen library was first made available on Windows and Mac, and now makes its debut on Linux with Microsoft Edge version 108. Microsoft Edge version 108 also brings new product optimizations (that is, better proxy handling) and bug fixes by having the SmartScreen library leverage Microsoft Edge’s built-in network stack,” the software giant explains in the official release notes of Microsoft Edge 108.
