Coming up with more apps for iOS and Android is part of Microsoft’s strategy to bring more users to its services even if they’re not part of the Windows ecosystem, so the company continues investing in solutions that are developed to run on non-Windows devices.

The latest such app is called Microsoft Pix and is described as an intelligent camera app for the iPhone, offering a set of features that are supposed to help you take the best shot at any given moment.

It happened to each and every one of us to try to take a photo of something but miss the right moment because it took too long to unlock the phone, open the camera app and then focus on the subject, so Microsoft’s new Pix app for the iPhone comes to eliminate all of these.

With Microsoft Pix, the app automatically shoots photos in burst both before and after you press the shutter button, in an attempt to help you capture the perfect moment. Furthermore, the app adjusts ISO and exposure from the second you launch the app, and the focus is always on the faces of people who are part of the photo.

Automatic live images

The app also creates a live image all automatically, and the app’s description comes to explain how this is going to work.

“When Microsoft Pix detects interesting motion in your shot, it automatically stitches together the burst frames into short lopping video called a Live Image. When people are detected, it optimizes the Live Image for their faces, stabilizing the video around them. Unlike Apple Live Photos, it only creates Live Images when it senses interesting movement, so it won’t waste storage and doesn’t need to be turned on/off in advance.”

The app is created by Microsoft Research, and the download link doesn’t seem to be up just yet, but iPhone users should be able to get it from the store in the coming days.
