There's not much left to talk about Microsoft's upcoming Gears 5 game, as the Redmond-based company revealed a little bit from every aspect of the game. The last piece of the puzzle was the campaign mode, which hasn't been discussed too much for fear of spoilers.

During Gamescom's Opening Night Live, Rod Ferguson, Studio Head of The Coalition, joined host Geoff Keighley to present the worldwide debut of the Gears 5 campaign story trailer. Dubbed “Kait, Unleashed,” the trailer focuses on the protagonist Kait Diaz, an Outsider who descends from Locusts.

At least some of the action of the game is set on Sera, a planet that's been ravaged by war. In its midst, Kait is trying to uncover the mysterious connection to the enemy. Not knowing whether or not you're dangerous for your squad is more terrifying for Kait than facing a full battalion of enemies. Of course, this is just a pretext for the journey players are going to take in Gears 5.

Apart from the new story trailer shown last night, The Coalition previewed the all-new Gears 5 Horde Mode, which will be available to play at the developer's booth at Gamescom later this week, Microsoft confirmed.

The new Horde Mode features new abilities and ways to play, including two characters from Halo” Reach, Noble Team Spartans Emile-A239 and Kat-B320, along with their ultimate abilities. These will only be available as part of the Halo: Reach character pack, which is included with all Gears 5 Ultimate Edition purchases ($80) on Xbox One and PC.

The character pack is also included with Gears 5 for those who get it from an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, so there's that. Gears 5 will be available worldwide on September 10 for Xbox One, Windows 10 PC and Steam. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members and owners of the Gears 5 Ultimate Edition play 4 days early with early access beginning September 6.
