14 DAY TRIAL // Windows Timeline is one of the latest additions to the Windows 10 feature arsenal, allowing users to create snapshots of their activities, including running apps, documents, and browser tabs, and restore them within the next 30 days.
A recent finding seems to indicate that Microsoft may be planning to bring Windows Timeline to the web in order to provide new functionality to its users, though for the time being, no specifics are available.
Twitter user WalkingCat, who has a good track on Microsoft snoops, came across a so-called Windows Timeline Web View running on Azure that may be the foundation of a web-based Timeline version launching at some point in the future.
How exactly this feature could work is not known at this point, but Timeline on the web may provide new features to users, including options to restore certain snapshots of their activities on new devices.
Timeline beyond Windows 10
While Timeline is an essential Windows 10 feature, Microsoft has tried to make it available elsewhere too, mostly in an attempt to bring its desktop operating system in sync with other devices.
For example, Timeline data is synced with Android devices, so Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Launcher users can have their browser tabs shared between phones and PCs in order to continue from where they left off.
It remains to be seen how Timeline would evolve in the coming months, but the upcoming release of Windows 10 19H1 could be the right opportunity for Microsoft to release new improvements in this regard.
The next feature update for Windows 10 is still in its early days right now and is being tested with help from insiders in the Skip Ahead and Fast rings. The debut of the update is projected to happen in the spring, with RTM to be finalized in March ahead of the public launch in April.
