The companies are working together for the key feature

Cortana is one of the many key features included in Windows Phone, but Microsoft has already decided that the personal digital assistant shouldn't be exclusively available on its mobile platform.

That being said, the Redmond-based company already launched a beta version of Cortana for Android users and plans to make the same thing for iOS by the end of the year.

However, a small portion of the Android fans who are more into Cyanogen OS can't get advantage of Microsoft’s Cortana just yet.

But that's about to change in the not so distant future, at least that's what Cynogen's CEO Kirt McMaster told Ibtimes in a recent interview.

According to him, Microsoft and Cyanogen are now working together to bring Cortana to Android fans who are using smartphones powered by Cyanogen OS.

“When Apple launched Apple Music at WWDC, they showed the Siri integration with Apple Music. Siri doesn’t power Spotify like that so we can do these kind of things with for example, integration of Microsoft’s Cortana into the OS enabling natural language to power Spotify and other services,” said Cyanogen’s CEO, Kirt McMaster.

A beta version of Cortana might not be released on Cyanogen OS

McMaster also states that the integration of Cortana in Cyanogen OS might not be offered as a beta program like Microsoft did with the Android version.

This means that Cortana might not be available until both companies are content with the final version of the personal digital assistant. Anyway, let's hope Cyanogen-powered smartphones will get Cortana sooner rather than later.

“Natural language coupled with intelligence is very important but as an application it doesn’t rally work because you need to be embedded into the framework of the OS because that is where you get all the signal from the services that makes that intelligence smarter,” added McMaster.
