Microsoft has announced a surprise hardware event for September 22, and a teaser included by the company suggests the star of the show will be a new Surface Pro model.

Likely to be called Surface Pro 8, the new device is obviously expected to come with hardware upgrades under the hood, but at the same time, everybody is wondering whether the company is finally ready to go for a more dramatic design overhaul or not.

In other words, the Surface Pro, whose design has barely changed in the last few years, should get a more modern facelift with smaller bezels and increased screen estate, though it goes without saying that getting the whole thing right is much more difficult on a device with touch capabilities.

The Surface Pro 8 will almost certainly come with an improved Touch Cover, as well as with a new pen that would then be available for other Surface models too.

Surface Duo 2

The upcoming hardware event is also expected to witness the debut of the Surface Duo 2, Microsoft’s new Android device that uses a dual-screen form factor for a rather innovative approach in the mobile market.

The Duo 2 will address many of the shortcomings of the first generation and will come with the latest-gen hardware, including a new high-end processor and upgraded cameras. There’s a chance Microsoft goes for a triple-camera configuration on the back, therefore allowing the Surface Duo 2 to become a flagship model in more regards.

At this point, however, very little is known about the new devices, and with Microsoft remaining tight-lipped on everything, these tidbits should be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism. Sales of the new devices announced on September 22 should begin in the next few weeks, most likely in October.
