14 DAY TRIAL // If you’re trying to update your device and somehow end up hitting the mysterious error 0x800f0922, you are certainly not alone.
Acknowledged in August this year, the glitch hits all versions of Windows that are still getting updates from Microsoft, including Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and Windows 11.
While an official fix is yet to be released, it goes without saying that hitting this error when trying to update a Windows device isn’t necessarily good news. Microsoft explains on the Windows Health dashboard, however, that issue only happens when trying to install a security update for Secure Boot DBX, so in theory, all the other updates should install correctly.
All the other updates should install just fine
In other words, the Patch Tuesday updates that were shipped by Microsoft after August 2022 should deploy properly on a Windows device encountering this error, and only the said security update should fail to install.
“When attempting to install , it might fail to install, and you might receive an error 0x800f0922. Note: This issue only affects the Security update for Secure Boot DBX () and does not affect the latest cumulative security updates, monthly rollups, or security only updates released on August 9, 2022,” Microsoft says.
While the company is currently working on a full fix for the glitch, the company also says that a workaround does exist, and it comes down to updating the UEFI BIOS on the device that’s hitting the bug.
“This issue can be mitigated on some devices by updating the UEFI bios to the latest version before attempting to install. We are presently investigating and will provide an update in an upcoming release,” the software giant says.
Unfortunately, there is no ETA as to when the full fix could go live for all devices out there.
