14 DAY TRIAL // Earlier today, I reported that a number of Windows 10 systems are being hit by what appears to be an activation bug causing their systems to be listed as not activated.
In a post on the company’s support forums, user DanielRandy reveals that Microsoft Support confirmed this is a known issue being experienced in several countries.
Microsoft engineers recommend users to wait for up to two days until the fix is resolved, as contacting support right now may not help.
“Microsoft has just released an Emerging issue announcement about current activation issue related to Pro edition recently. This happens in Japan, Korea, American and many other countries,” a Microsoft Support engineer was quoted as saying in a post on the Community forums.
“I am very sorry to inform you that there is a temporary issue with Microsoft's activation server at the moment and some customers might experience this issue where Windows is displayed as not activated. Our engineers are working tirelessly to resolve this issue and it is expected to be corrected within one to two business days.”
Widespread issue?
The number of users who are reporting the issue is growing every minute (1, 2, 3, 4), and this may an indication this is a serious problem happening all over the world. For now, our systems here at Softpedia haven’t been deactivated.
Some users are also reporting that their copy of Windows has been downgraded from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 10 Home. However, this appears to be an isolated behavior for now.
Microsoft hasn’t offered any other specifics for now, so the company may be working on a fix and share more details when they are available. The number of users hit by the glitch is expected to increase in the coming hours, however.
