And a fix is already in the works, the company says

Windows 10 version 2004, or May 2020 Update, is still being rolled out to users across the world in stages, as Microsoft wants to make sure that everybody benefits from the best possible experience.

Whenever new bugs are discovered, the company halts the rollout of specific computers that could be affected, with the release then resumed when a fix is ready.

This time, Microsoft has confirmed a rather odd bug on some devices that have already been updated to Windows 10 version 2004.

A number of users have noticed a “No Internet” label in the system tray for their network connections, despite the Internet connection actually working just fine. In other words, this is inaccurate information, and Microsoft says in a post on TechNet that the problem is indeed under investigation, with a fix likely to land rather sooner than later.

Fix already on its way

“Customers are reporting ‘no internet’ access in the Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) on Windows 10 2004 devices on devices that in fact can ping internet resources or browse web sites with internet browsers,” the company explains.

“Microsoft has known about this issue but haven’t resolved it yet. It is being investigated by Microsoft currently.”

At this point, it’s not yet known when the fix could land, but Microsoft is actively working on it, so expect one of the next cumulative updates to include it.

In the meantime, there’s pretty much no workaround that could help you deal with the whole thing. However, this isn’t necessarily a critical problem, as it has no impact on the status of the Internet connection in the first place. The only thing you get is actually the incorrect information that there’s no Internet, but other than that, everything is just running as expected with no problem whatsoever.
