Double Tap to Wake coming to select devices

Double Tap to Wake is one of the features missing from Windows 10 Mobile flagships such as Lumia 950 and 950 XL, but available on a number of models upgraded from Windows Phone, so it’s no surprise that Microsoft has been asked by many of its users to introduce it across the entire device lineup.

And it appears that this is exactly what Microsoft is working on right now, as the company has confirmed in a message reply posted in the Feedback Hub that Double Tap to Wake is coming for devices that actually support this feature.

In other words, models such as Lumia 950 and 950 XL, both of which are Windows 10 Mobile high-end handsets, will finally get such functionality, which clearly comes in handy when you want to unlock the phone without pressing the physical button on the side.

Coming with the Anniversary Update

Imagine you have the phone near you on the desk, and you can understand why Double Tap to Wake is such a helpful addition. Unlocking the phone or checking the lock screen for notifications is much easier by simply tapping the screen than it is by pressing the side button, and this is the reason so many people want the feature to work on their phones too. Especially when taking into account that older models have it already.

“Thank you for your feedback! We are aware of this issue. We are working on adding the support for double tap to wake for devices that support this feature,” a post coming from a Microsoft engineer reveals to users who voted for this feature in the Feedback Hub.

At this point, it’s not known exactly when this long-awaited capability will arrive on Windows 10 Mobile, but since Microsoft is already working on it, an early version should be introduced in a preview build of the operating system in the coming weeks. Retail users should receive it with the Anniversary Update coming in the summer for all devices.
