Redmond launches trade-in program for Surface Book

Microsoft has recently launched a trade-in program for the Surface Book in the United Kingdom, trying to entice customers into buying the so-called “ultimate laptop” at more affordable prices.

The Surface Book is quite an expensive device, with the top-of-the-range model that comes with 1TB of storage space and an Intel Core i7 processor available for $3,199 (€2,950) in the United States.

So this trade-in program certainly comes in handy, especially if you own one of the devices that Microsoft accepts in return for store credit.

Apple’s MacBook is the one that gets you paid the most, as Microsoft can give you back up to £400 (€523/$568), depending on condition and model. Fortunately, several other devices are included in the promo, among which the iPad, the Samsung Galaxy Tab, but also several Surface models, such as the original Surface RT.

This is quite a good thing, given the fact that the first Surface, which was powered by Windows RT, has no future in Microsoft’s lineup, so you can finally make some money out of it (as selling it online is quite hard since Microsoft has already abandoned the product).

If your trade-in is accepted, you can purchase any of the following Surface Book models:

Microsoft Surface Book 128GB / Intel Core i5 - 8GB
Microsoft Surface Book 256GB / Intel Core i5 - 8GB / dGPU
Microsoft Surface Book 256GB / Intel Core i7 - 8GB / dGPU
Microsoft Surface Book 512GB / Intel Core i7 - 16GB / dGPU
“Your new product must be pre-ordered from Microsoft Store between 17th January 2016 to the 29th February and have a minimum purchase price of £749.00,” according to Microsoft’s terms.

For the moment, this trade-in program is only available in the United Kingdom, but Microsoft can expand it to other markets sometime in the future, especially because it wants to make the Surface Book a more appealing purchase.
