The company begins new experiments in latest preview build

Microsoft is working on expanding Fluent Design to more parts of Windows 10, and the most recent preview build released earlier this week brings more changes in this regard.

In updated release notes published late on Friday, Microsoft reveals that Fluent Design has also received a boost in Windows 10 build 17692, as the acrylic effect is now available in XAML controls and flyouts.

This means that acrylic is now being implemented beyond key Windows 10 menus and apps, and Microsoft is now working on smaller refinements that could push the visual makeover closer to the final stages.

Starting with this new build, acrylic material is available in context menus, flyouts, AutoSuggestBox and ComboBox dropdowns, as well as in date and time picker flyouts.

“With Build 17692 you will notice new acrylic backgrounds in places on the system using these controls – for example when you right-click open apps in Task View. Apps using the SDK for this build or higher will see this change by default as well,” Microsoft says.

Improved Storage Sense

Another change that Microsoft hasn’t announced when it rolled out this recent build concerns Storage Sense. Starting with the Creators Update, Storage Sense serves as a way to clean up storage, and after this feature evolved in the April 2018 Update, Microsoft is adding new features in anticipation of the Redstone 5 update.

“Today we’re taking the next step by adding the ability to automatically make any downloaded Files On-Demand online-only if you haven’t used them in a certain number of days. Head to Settings > System > Storage > Storage Sense to try out this new feature!” Microsoft explains.

The Windows development team has also acknowledged another issue in this build, revealing that Surface Studio all-in-one PCs are unable to update to the latest releases. Microsoft, however, says that the bug has already been fixed, and when the next build comes out, Surface Studio PCs should be able to update normally.
