New update includes visual improvements for the Store

Microsoft has released a new update for the Microsoft Store in Windows 10, and this version brings both new features and visual improvements like more Fluent Design touches.

Just like Windows 10 itself and the pre-installed apps, the Microsoft Store app is getting the Fluent Design treatment, and with this update, Microsoft finally introduces the reveal effect. Previously, Fluent Design came to the Microsoft Store only with the acrylic effect, so with this update, the visual makeover advances.

According to WBI, this facelift is available on both PCs and mobile, so if for some reason you’re still using a Windows phone, you should see these improvements as well.

The new Microsoft Store version also includes font improvements, options to browse reviews with arrows at the end of each page, plus a new search bar behavior. The search bar is hidden by default on PC, and you can search by simply clicking on the icon.

At this point, all these refinements are only available for Windows insiders in the Release Preview ring and running version 11805.1001.5.0 of the Microsoft Store, but they should be published very soon for everyone else.

The Fluent Design makeover

Fluent Design is Microsoft’s new design language that’s being implemented in Windows 10 and core OS apps, with the upcoming Redstone 5 update due in the fall to continue this makeover by implementing further visual improvements.

Microsoft started rolling out aesthetic refinements to its apps with the release of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update back in October 2017, and the April 2018 Update that launched earlier this year introduced further touches in this regard.

The next major update for Windows 10 is Redstone 5 and is projected to launch in the fall, but in the meantime, new app versions like this one will bring Microsoft to a complete cosmetic transformation as part of the Fluent Design treatment.
