Users will now see more content on the taskbar

The widget integration into the Windows 11 taskbar makes it possible for users to see the current weather temperature without even having to click the icon.

As an evolved version of the previous News and interests experience, this new feature certainly comes in handy, though, on the other hand, it’s pretty clear that weather information isn’t necessarily everybody’s cup of tea.

This is why Microsoft is now working on improving this feature even further, with the most recent Windows 11 preview build bringing the so-called Dynamic Widgets.

Microsoft says that thanks to Dynamic Widgets content, users can now see live updates from sports and finance widgets, as well as breaking news alerts.

Only available for some insiders

If users do not interact with this information, then the icon goes back to showing the weather.

“We’re trying out some changes to bring more dynamic Widgets content to your taskbar. In addition to seeing live content from the weather widget, you’ll also start to see live updates from the sports and finance widgets, along with breaking news alerts,” Microsoft says.

“This should make it easier for you to know when something important happens related to these widgets and keep you informed of breaking news. The content is meant to be quick and glanceable with the ability to see more inside the widgets board if you click on it. However, if you don’t interact with the content update the taskbar will return to showing you the weather,” the company continued.

At this point, the feature isn’t available for all users in the Dev channel, as Microsoft says it’s using a phased approach before everybody can try it out. Most likely, it will take a few weeks before all users in the Dev channel get the support for Dynamic Widgets content, obviously if no major issue is found.
