The company is now working on an Outlook add-on

Microsoft Edge is a mature browser now, but Microsoft is still working around the clock on further integration of the application in all its services, and of course, the other way around too.

The most recent such effort concerns Outlook and Microsoft Edge, as the Redmond-based software giant is working on bringing the email service right in the browser.

As spotted by Dr. Windows, Microsoft is now working on a browser add-on that would provide users with one-click access to Outlook, therefore making it possible to load the inbox without the need for opening a separate tab or anything like this.

So in theory, this new browser add-on wouldn’t necessarily make such a difference, as you should technically do the same thing by simply creating a bookmark for your inbox, but Microsoft wants to make the whole process as straightforward as possible, especially for Outlook and Exchange for Business users.

Coming in July

Furthermore, the company says this new browser add-on will also work in Google Chrome, which isn’t necessarily surprising given both browsers are based on the Chromium engine in the first place.

“The Microsoft Outlook browser extension brings you the power of mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks using an icon in Microsoft Edge. Quickly access your Outlook work account or your Outlook.com or Hotmail account without switching to another tab or app. The extension will be available in the Chrome Store soon as well,” Microsoft explains.

At this point, the ETA of this new browser add-on is July this year, so we’re only a few weeks away from the moment it would finally become available for users.

In the meantime, you can do pretty much the same thing by just creating bookmarks for your Outlook inbox in the browser, no matter which one you’re using.
