Yet another build released for the Fast ring

Microsoft has recently released a new Windows 10 Redstone 4 preview build, and this time insiders in the Fast ring are the ones getting it.

Windows 10 build 17120 features a bunch of Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG) improvements, many of them based on feedback, according to the company itself.

For example, WDAG has received several performance touches and it should launch faster with the release of Windows 10 Redstone 4, while also getting options to download files to the host.

“Users can turn on a feature to download files from their WDAG browsing session onto the host file system. This feature is available in the Windows 10 Enterprise edition and must be turned on. Once the feature is enabled, users will be able to download files into a folder created in their Downloads folder and open all files on the host,” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, explains.

No known issues

The Windows Mixed Reality platform is also receiving particular attention in this build, and Microsoft says that it’s aware of several issues, including a performance regression on hybrid laptops. Inbox apps also fail to load occasionally, and Windows Mixed Reality crashes when launching the Store from Movies & TV and then close the apps.

The good news is that there are no known issues for the operating system itself, so Windows 10 users should experience pretty smooth performance after updating to build 17120.

Since this build lands so close to the expected April release of Redstone 4, having no known issues is definitely good news, as it’s a sign that performance is substantially improved ahead of the public launch.

Microsoft is yet to announce the official release date of the Redstone 4 update, but everyone expects it to be April. The RTM build should be compiled this month and released to all users in the Windows Insider program, regardless of the ring they are enrolled in.
