Redmond prepares patch for keyboard issue

Microsoft has just confirmed that it’s working on a patch to fix a Windows 10 Mobile Word Flow keyboard bug that caused swiping to work incorrectly when typing in certain fields, such as websites and a number of apps.

In the latest builds of Windows 10 Mobile, when using Word Flow to type in the Microsoft Edge address bar or in installed applications, the keyboard no longer inserts spaces between words due to a bug discovered in the operating system.

Microsoft Edge engineer Jonathan Sampson has confirmed in a tweet this morning that the company has managed to find the cause of the bug and has promised to release a fix in the near future.

“Great news, everybody. The issue has been tracked, investigated, and a fix is in the pipeline,” he says in his tweet.

Word Flow integration in SwiftKey

This Word Flow update news comes together with a pretty big announcement that Microsoft purchased third-party keyboard developer SwiftKey, which currently has 300 million users on Android and iOS.

As part of the acquisition, Microsoft intends to integrate Word Flow into SwiftKey, but plans for this merger are yet to be disclosed at the moment.

SwiftKey founders, however, guarantee that the application will continue to exist on both iOS and Android just like before, and despite Microsoft’s involvement, no changes will be made in terms of availability.

“Our number one focus has always been to build the best possible products for our users. This will not change. Our apps will continue to be available on Android and iOS, for free. We are as committed as ever to improving them in new and innovative ways,” the company says.

In the meantime, Word Flow continues to be a very neat way of typing on a Windows 10 Mobile device, so this new update should refine the experience even more when it becomes available for phones already updated to this version.
