Microsoft has recently announced the release date of Visual Studio 2019, the next version of its integrated development environment that’s getting a whole bunch of major refinements for this year.

In an update posted on the Visual Studio page, Microsoft reveals that the official launch will take place on April 2, with the company to also provide users with live-streamed sessions with Q&A.

“Your ideas deserve great tools. Join us on April 2 for the launch of Visual Studio 2019. Learn about how Visual Studio 2019 is more productive, modern, and innovative, participate in live Q&As, and be the first to take the latest version for a spin,” the page reads.

Microsoft says the full list of speakers will be announced at a later time, but for now, we know for sure that Scott Hanselman and Julia Liuson will take the stage to discuss the improvements in Visual Studio 2019.

Preview version available

A preview version of the upcoming release was published by Microsoft last year for developers interested in giving it an early try, and it brought quite a plethora of improvements, all of which are detailed on the preview page here.

One of the highlights is the collaboration update that relies on a feature called Visual Studio Live Share and which makes it possible for several developers to work simultaneously on the same project.

“With Visual Studio Live Share, you can collaborate in real-time whether your team members are working from home or across the world. Live Share installs by default and supports all projects, app types, and languages. When you’re ready to check in your code, try the new pull request (PR) experience. It lets you and your team quickly review code (even run the app and debug!) from Azure Repos directly in the IDE,” Microsoft explains.

The most recent Visual Studio 2019 preview build was published on February 13 as Visual Studio 2019 Preview 3. The full changelog is available here.
