Redmond could deliver the last build ahead of RTM

Microsoft is hard at work to finalize Windows 10, and some have sources indicated that RTM will be reached tomorrow, so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that the company has temporarily suspended preview builds downloads in anticipation of this big moment.

But while users are unable to upgrade to the latest builds of Windows 10 preview, the company is actually working on a brand new version that will be shipped soon, and Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has confirmed this today.

No other details have been provided, but Aul has said that the new build will be delivered via the standard production channels, so if this last testing effort that made the company temporarily suspend preview build downloads goes well, expect to get the new release sometime next week.

Could this be the RTM?

The most common question we now hear from users online is whether this new build coming next to Windows 10 insiders is the RTM version that’s going to be ready tomorrow.

Although Redmond wouldn’t confirm this, chances are that it’s not, as the company has already explained that insiders will get the final bits of the operating system on July 29 and not sooner. This means that the next build could also be the last, with insiders to get the final upgrade the day Windows 10 comes out for everyone else.

In the meantime, if you want to install the latest Windows 10 build, you have no other option than to search online for alternative download links, as Microsoft is no longer shipping the preview via Windows Update or making it available through official ISOs.

While you can download ISOs from other sources, keep in mind that prerelease keys cannot be used for activation, so you have to wait a little bit longer until Microsoft ends its testing effort for RTM.
