Microsoft has announced new hardware configurations for the Surface Pro 6 and the Surface Laptop 2, but this time, they are specifically at businesses as part of the Surface for Business program.

Specifically, Microsoft is making the 16GB of RAM version of the two devices, which was previously offered on the Intel Core i7 configuration, available for cheaper options too.

In other words, the Intel Core i5 Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2 can both be ordered with 16GB of RAM, but only when opting for 256GB of storage.

“There is also growing interest from commercial customers wanting to outfit mainstream productivity employees with devices containing 16GB memory,” Microsoft explains.

Limited availability for now

These new configurations are available in the United States and Canada, but Microsoft says that it’s exploring demand in other markets, so they could be released elsewhere too. Sales should begin this month, yet keep in mind that these devices aren’t offered to consumers, but to businesses that have an ongoing Surface for Business contract with Microsoft.

Microsoft also announced that its commercial partners can now sell select configurations of the Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2 to businesses in a series of countries, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, and Romania.

“We have heard requests to enable broader market support so multinational corporations can purchase Surface on a more global basis to outfit workers across subsidiaries and regional offices. These offerings will leverage an International English keyboard (Surface Pro Type Cover sold separately) and include local languages in the operating system image, with availability beginning May 1, 2019,” Microsoft says.

Both the Surface Pro 6 and the Surface Laptop 2 were announced in late 2018 and are also available for consumers from Microsoft’s official store or from authorized retailers.
