The Windows Security feature is getting extra polishing

Microsoft is working around the clock on bolstering the security feature arsenal bundled with Windows 11, and the most recent preview build comes with an important refinement for core isolation.

More specifically, the Redmond-based software giant announced that it’s now displaying a notification on Windows 11 devices to let users know that memory integrity is turned off.

The change is only part of Windows 11 build 22593, but it should obviously make its way to production devices with the next operating system feature update.

“Memory integrity is a feature in Windows 11 designed to prevent attacks from inserting malicious code into high-security processes. This feature can be found in Windows Security under Device Security > Core isolation. In the most recent Insider Preview builds, we will notify the user that this feature is currently turned off so that action can be taken for the user to turn it back on so that their device is as secure as possible against malicious attacks,” Microsoft explained.

Phishing protection also coming to Windows 11

Earlier this week, Microsoft also announced a new security feature that’s on its way to Windows 11.

The operating system is getting phishing protection, though, at this point, it’s still not known when the feature is supposed to start rolling out to devices out there.

“New in Windows 11 is enhanced phishing detection and protection built into Windows with Microsoft Defender SmartScreen. This new feature will help protect users from phishing attacks by identifying and alerting users when they are entering their Microsoft credentials into a malicious application or hacked website. Smart App Control uses code signing alongside Microsoft’s powerful artificial intelligence models to ensure that only trusted applications are run, blocking one of the largest attack vectors on Windows by-default. We’re also looking ahead to bring the power of the cloud to hardware with the flexible, updatable Microsoft Pluton security processor,” Panos Panay said.
